Planned Giving:

There are many ways to give besides writing a check or giving online. Stocks, real estate, IRA distributions, and bequests are ways of giving that may offer significant tax advantages.

Stocks:

A gift of appreciated stock held for more than one year has a major advantage over a gift of cash—it lets you avoid the capital gains tax you would have paid if you sold the stock. If you itemize, you can deduct the full value of the gift, even though the appreciation has never been taxed. And when Braun sells the stock, we keep all the proceeds since we are tax exempt.

Real estate:

Similarly, you can deduct the full fair market value of appreciated real estate while avoiding any capital gains tax on the appreciation.

IRA distribution:

If you are over 70 1/2, a good option is an IRA Qualified Charitable Distribution, which allows you to direct some or all of your Required Minimum Distribution to us, and have that distribution excluded from your income for federal tax purposes—up to $105,000 per year for this favorable tax treatment.

Bequests:

Gifts made through your will allow you to leave a lasting legacy, while retaining full use of your property during your lifetime, so there are no immediate costs or impacts to lifestyle. Wills also allow flexibility in what you choose to leave: a specific sum of money, a specific asset, a remainder of your estate, etc. And you can of course change your bequest at any time.

Summer 2024 Projects

This summer we will be upgrading solar systems at the Lindley and Tagert and replacing the solar system at the Green Wilson. We will also be sprucing up the Barnard by refinishing the floor, adding a recently donated wood stove (Thank you Ruthie Brown!). We will also be replacing some doors and windows at the Barnard and Tagert.

Thank you for your support of the huts and your help making them such a wonderful resource for our community!

Truck Fundraising Campaign Thank you for your support!

We have exciting news that a donor has pledged a $30,000 gift to help us fundraise for our new hut truck! Through Colorado Gives day and your generous help with other donations we were able to fundraise an additional $18,966 and purchase our new Hut truck. We are so thankful for everyone’s support!

Our beloved 2008 F-350 has seen many seasons in the high country delivering all of the wood, construction materials, and hut essentials for you, our hut community. In fact, this truck carried most of the Opa Hut over Taylor Pass to the helicopter staging area during it's construction in 2012.

A huge Thank You for your 2020 support!

When we reached out for your help this spring and summer we were able to raise $18,000! Amidst the uncertainty of the pandemic, cancelations, and the coming winter this enabled us to move forward with two essential repair projects to the foundations of the Tagert (1960) and the Barnard huts (1967).

A donation of any amount will help us improve and sustain the hut experience we know and love for future generations.
